Dear Mr. President,

Professor Rashid Khalidi, the Edward Said Professor at Columbia, has recently decided to provoke tensions in the Middle East by evoking Barack Obama in his push for a new ‘flotilla’ to set sail for Gaza, titled the “Audacity of Hope.” This ‘flotilla’ is set to give aid and comfort to Hamas in Gaza, and is meant to delegitimize the one state in the Mideast that respects human rights and decency, aka Israel. In fact, it has been well documented that the people of Gaza are not starving, and this ‘flotilla’ is really only meant to be an incursion upon Israel’s sovereign waters. Because Rashid Khalidi is such a high profile professor at Columbia, he is tarnishing the prestigious Ivy League name of Columbia University as a school that promotes terrorism. I am writing this letter as an appeal to reason. Rashid Khalidi must not be allowed to continue to flout international law and support terrorism without being disciplined by Columbia University. Furthermore, this letter is being written to ask Columbia to issue an official statement, disavowing the terror support of Professor Rashid Khalidi. Israel supports academic freedom and human rights, in contrast to Hamas-run Gaza. As such, it is imperative that Columbia show its support for human rights and academic freedom by taking a stand against Professor Khalidi’s support for terrorism.

Expelling the Israeli Ambassador from can cause a diplomatic avalanche and many third world countries, and perhaps others, would also then follow suit, leaving Israel quite isolated. That isolation could in turn create some severe difficulties for Israel.
It is believed that any sort of diplomatic isolation of Israel will be more dangerous than the 1975 U.N. Zionism is Racism Resolution was.
